Nerja - The Town

The town of Nerja is located about 50 kilometres to the east of Malaga.
Nerja used to be an old and small fishing village before it became one of the most interesting tourist destinations on the Coast.

             Balcon of Europa

Surrounded not only be the Mediterranean Sea but also by the Sierra Almijara mountain range, Nerja enjoys a wonderful climate,an excellent location, a beautiful scenery and numerous points of interest.
For exemple, the impressive "Balcón de Europa" - one of Nerja’s highlights.
Formerly the site of a Moorish castle, the place today is dotted with trees and benches. As it is situated on a cliff, you will have the most spectacular views of the sea, coves, the coast and the
beaches that stretch to both sides.

Other places of interest within the town include the wonderful Gardens of Capistrano Playa as well as the 17th century
Church of El Salvador.

The latter is built in a mixture between Moorish, baroque and mudejar styles and therefore very much worth a visit for those interested in architectural highlights

Nerja offers activities for everyone. Visitors lie on the beach and play water sports, or they enjoy the natural surroundings by going on one of the many Nerja Walks.

Those interested in the culture and history of the area might be interested in visiting
Nerja Monuments. Those who don't like walking, and those that are not too keen on visiting sights, will probably be interested in some of the other Nerja Sports that are available in the town, such as golfing, scuba diving.or Jeep Tour in the mountains.

The most visited attractions in the region are without doubt the Nerja Caves.
Located only one kilometre from the town itself, tourists can easily reach them and admire this spectacular natural treasure. Hidden within the mountains that make up Nerja’s background, the caves have been declared a national
monument and hold - even today - many secrets.
